Last month, Zolani Mahola, a local South African artist, joined domestic airline LIFT, to treat travellers to a surprise Silent Disco performance in the sky.
Lift Airlines CEO, Jonathan Ayache, said: “We’re on a mission to upLIFT South Africa, especially within the artistic community; the support of both local businesses and talent is important to us. By creating platforms for local talent to shine, we hope to bring a little upliftment to South Africans at the same time.”
Passengers on the 13h00 flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg, and on the 16h00 flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town, were treated to a special guest performance from the creator and singer behind Lift’s official anthem.
The song was part of Lift’s mission to #upLIFTsa and the many industries impacted by the pandemic soon after its launch in 2020.
Zolani recently embarked on the latest chapter of her musical journey as ‘The One Who Sings’ after 17 successful years with pan-African supergroup Freshlyground.
Since its launch, Lift has hosted inflight performances much to the delight of travellers. Cape Town Opera performed on board a flight during their national tour of Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro; Divine Mahara launched his first album at 36 000ft with the first ever Lift Silent Disco, and the airline even had comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout do a comedy skit on board a flight.
“Our collaboration with Zolani Mahola for our anthem was just the start. We’re thrilled to have her back on board for a surprise performance. Our dream is to let Lift become a springboard for musicians, artists and entertainers around the country. From here, the sky really is the limit,” said Ayache.
