Botswana’s Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Tshekedi Khama, said Botswana was not keen to participate in a uni-visa with KAZA countries.
Khama reasoned that KAZA countries had failed to manage their wildlife. "Let them manage their areas first. Right now KAZA is not working and the uni-visa would not serve us. They have to change first and protect their wildlife, which is a primary factor, and the people’s benefits are secondary,” Khama told local media reporters in Kasane recently.
Rule Jimmy Opelo, acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, told Tourism Update that an official communiqué regarding the decision the government had taken with regard to KAZA uni-visa would be issued soon.
KAZA uni-visa is a multinational visa project by Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe that seeks to promote tourism and facilitate free, easy movement of tourists across the countries’ borders.
