Construction of Phase 1 of the Ndiyona-Djaradjara road on District Road 3472 in the Kavango East Region of Namibia has officially commenced. The ground-breaking ceremony on November 20 was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Transport John Mutorwa.
The road, a critical link in the region, connects the Khaudum National Game Park to Trunk Road 0804 (Rundu-Ndivundu) in the north and extends to Shikerete Village and Tsumkwe Settlement in the south. It also serves numerous schools and clinics in the area.
Key objectives
The 12-month project aims to enhance connectivity, improve access to essential services and increase road safety. The improved infrastructure is also expected to create economic opportunities for local communities along the route.
Project details
Local contractor Namibia Investment Contracts has been appointed to undertake the construction with the Roads Authority overseeing the project. The road is expected to provide significant benefits to travellers and residents in the Kavango East Region.
