Ethiopian Airlines has partnered with sustainable energy solutions company Satarem America to establish sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facilities in Ethiopia for Ethiopian Airlines.
SAF, produced from renewable feedstocks, has potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions, making it an important alternative to traditional jet fuel in the fight against climate change.
Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, said the collaboration highlighted the airline’s commitment to sustainability and aligned with its broader sustainability goals to reduce its carbon footprint.
“The adoption of SAF is not just a business decision; it reflects our commitment to combating climate change and investing in innovative solutions that support a sustainable industry.”
As one of Africa's leading airlines, Ethiopian Airlines has prioritised sustainability through various initiatives that minimise waste and emissions including fleet modernisation, optimised flight operations, extensive recycling programmes and tree planting. Integration of SAF into its operations will enhance these efforts to introduce eco-friendly aviation solutions.
