Garden Route Game Lodge, situated in the Western Cape within the Garden Route Game Reserve, has completed a R4.5m (€276 819) upgrade.
The lodge, which is 3.5 hours from Cape Town, and 30 minutes from Mossel Bay, initiated the upgrade in May 2018, which includes upgrades to the swimming pools, gardens and recreational spaces.
Two pools were constructed – one to the south and a second, larger one, to the north of the property. Both are north-west facing, overlooking the malaria-free Big Five private game reserve. The pools are linked by a common viewing deck and casual pool-side bar. Both offer gazebos under which to relax, and have low surrounding walls to ensure the areas are safe for children.
“We anticipate that the new pool areas and the entertainment and relaxation they offer will lead to a more enjoyable and hopefully longer stay,” says Anthony Doherty, Director of Garden Route Game Lodge. “An inviting and spacious pool area appeals to both the domestic and international traveller, be it a family on annual vacation or a couple on honeymoon.”
Indigenous gardens, berms (raised banks), and landscapes have been planted to attract local sunbirds and sugarbirds for guests to enjoy birdwatching.
The game reserve attracts a diverse clientele and is popular with both families and couples.
