Hideaways Africa officially added Mhara River Camp, located in Mana Pools National Park, Zimbabwe, to its exclusive portfolio from August 20. With an all-year season, the six-room tented camp is situated on the banks of the Chitake River in a remote and previously unexplored concession, offering guests unique wilderness experiences.
The camp's secluded location offers excellent opportunities for leopard sightings and features diverse landscapes, including mopane woodlands, dry riverbeds, gorges and baobab forests.
Mhara River Camp is known for its walking safaris, particularly in the Chitake Gorge, where guests can observe wildlife and the local flora and fauna in their natural habitats. Birdwatching is also a highlight with the camp offering opportunities to spot the rare African Pitta among over 400 bird species.
Facilities in the tents include en-suite bathrooms, twin beds, tea and coffee stations, charging facilities, cooling fans, mosquito nets and solar-powered fans.
“Many people talk about wilderness in brochures and those kinds of things – most of the time they are not what we believe a wilderness is. A wilderness is just a few people, the animals that live there, no masses of roads or vehicles. It's pristine. And that's exactly what Mhara River Camp is,” said Derek Hinde, Director of Mhara.
Guests enjoy a variety of activities within Mana Pools including birding, bush walks, boma dinners, sundowners and game drives.
