To celebrate its 40th birthday, Protea Hotels by Marriott has announced the opening of two new properties, including its first in Angola.
The Protea by Marriott Luanda is situated between the Luanda CBD and Talatona, with easy access to a range of businesses and private event destinations.
The 84 guest rooms and suites are decorated in contemporary African style and the all-day Múcua restaurant serves a fusion of Portuguese and Angolan cuisine. The rooftop bar has panoramic views of the surrounding area, and a fully equipped gym and outdoor pool are available for guests.

The 203-room Protea by Marriott Pretoria Hatfield, located near diplomatic, government and corporate offices as well as shopping centres and entertainment destinations, aims to attract business and leisure travellers.
The African Restaurant and Bar serves African cuisine and five state-of-the-art conference venues can cater for both large- and small-scale events.
“This month we celebrate four decades of exceptional service and genuine African hospitality. What better way to commemorate this milestone than by further strengthening Protea Hotels’ legacy with our first hotel in Angola and the ongoing expansion of the brand in South Africa,” said Sandra Schulze Potgieter, Vice President of Premium and Select Brands for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for Marriott International.
Angola is the eighth African country in the Protea by Marriott portfolio. After starting in South Africa, the hotel group has expanded to Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
