Kenyan Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala, and Turkana Governor, Josphat Nanok, are planning to formulate a strategy to enhance visitors’ experiences and boost tourism numbers in the county.
They agreed on the need to develop the massive tourism potential of Turkana, based on the community's rich cultural heritage, fossil discoveries relating to human evolution, and the under-explored beaches of Lake Turkana.
According to Nanok, Lake Turkana – as the largest salt lake with many historic sites in the area – has big tourism potential. He said the tourism industry in the region had seen impressive growth in the past five years, but much support was required to improve the standard of services to contribute to creating an unforgettable experience for visitors.
Speaking during a tourism stakeholders’ forum in Turkana, Balala added: "Governor Nanok and I discussed ways to grow the tourism industry in Turkana and strengthen conservation of national parks and reserves."
