Kicheche Camps has had to temporarily suspend its bushwalks and fly camps, owing to an exercise recently carried out by the Government of Kenya whereby all gun license holders have to reapply for new biometric licenses.

All larger calibre firearms have also been recalled by the government, which has been challenged as these are required for safety with larger mammals.

There have been delays in the issuance of the new licenses, which has caused Kicheche to make the decision to cancel all walks and fly camps until the licensing is resolved.

“We apologise for the inconvenience but the security of our guests is paramount and cannot be compromised. We will keep you posted as soon as the issue is resolved,” said a spokesperson from the camps.

Kicheche has four camps: Kicheche Laikipia, Kicheche Valley, Kicheche Mara and Kicheche Bush.

Laipika is situated in the shadows of Mount Kenya, and has six luxurious tents, a spacious well-furnished loung and dining tent, game viewing from the private verandah overlooking the dam, and Wi-Fi in the lounge.

Valley is located in the Naboisho Conservancy, with six luxurious tents set on platform sot maximise the wildlife and wilderness views. Known for its birdwatching, massages and yoga and village visits, Valley also has game drives.

Mara Camp is situated in the prime wildlife area of the Mara North Conservancy. The six luxury tents are located alongside a seasonal stream, where guests can observe the birdlife and plains game beyond. A family suite has two separate bedrooms (double and twin/triple) with en-suite bathrooms. Bedrooms are connected by a lounge.

Finally, Bush Camp is situated in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, and is a big attraction for professional photographers for day safaris. Guides are well experienced working with photographers and select optimal positions at sightings, taking lighting and animal behaviour into account.

All camps offer safari 4WD vehicles, with exceptional photographic opportunities.
