Travellers now have access to two family-owned luxury camps offering exclusive-use, fully catered or self-catering accommodation in the renowned Timbavati Private Nature Reserve within Kruger National Park.
Safari for Real – led by experienced field guides Lex Hes and Chris Stamper – has secured exclusive access to the Chimanimani and Nyala camps with traversing rights on a prime 3 500 hectare section of the big five reserve.
Recently overhauled during its transition from a private family camp, Chimanimani features:
- Four modern double rooms (one with two interleading bedrooms ideal for families)
- Communal areas (large fully equipped kitchen, lounge with fireplace, outdoor dining area, firepit, boma and swimming pool)
The camp is raised above the woodlands of the reserve with views of the Drakensberg escarpment.
Under towering trees on the banks of the seasonal Monwana River, Nyala Camp is a classic safari-style luxury camp sleeping eight adults in four spacious rooms connected by wooden walkways. The camp has:
- Fully equipped kitchen
- Indoor and outdoor lounge areas (including firepit, boma, viewing deck overlooking a dry riverbed and swimming pool)
- Small gym
Both camps offer private guiding led by either Hes or Stamper. In addition to day and night drives (with emphasis on flexible timings adapted to guests’ needs) and bush breakfasts, activities include rhino anti-poaching helicopter flips, cultural excursions and visits to the reserve’s Graeme Naylor Museum showcasing the natural heritage of the area.
“We are incredibly excited to introduce these two wonderful camps to local and international travellers and offer affordable travel options in a world-class game viewing area. Guests will encounter few other game drive vehicles. We strongly emphasise spending quality time with wildlife, tracking big game and being truly flexible in the timing of activities,” Hes said.
