A new lodge, Chikunto Safari Lodge, will open in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, in April.
Owner, Regula Burkhalter, told Tourism Update: “The lodge has four luxury double tents and one luxury family tent, all raised on wooden decking overlooking the Luangwa River. All tents have king size or twin bed with mosquito net, sitting area with a sofa and coffee table, a wardrobe, writing desk and en-suite bathroom. Outside the tent is a covered veranda with cosy lounge furniture. There is a fan above the bed and another at the veranda.”
The main area is raised on wooden decking overlooking the Luangwa River and has a dining area, bar, boma and salt-water swimming pool.
Chikunto Safari Lodge can take a maximum of 12 guests and activities include driving and walking safaris, boat cruises (feasible from February to April) and a village tour.
Burkhalter owns and operates the lodge together with her husband, Jens Kant, and Zambian partner, Josephat Musoni.
South Luangwa National Park is about 700km northeast of the capital, Lusaka, from where guests can fly to Mfuwe International Airport. A 20-minute drive leads to the park gate, where the first safari drive starts. The lodge is situated at Big Bend Site, about a 45-minute drive from the park gate.
