Consumer engagement agency, iKineo, has launched Sideways, a new mobile app for tourists visiting the winelands of the Western Cape.
Wine farms have a profile page in the app, offering information such as opening times, available wines and GPS co-ordinates that link to a smart phone’s own navigation software.
According to Marthinus Botha from iKineo: “Sideways is a simple but powerful solution we created to make the winelands of the Western Cape more accessible to everyone. It guides visitors to instantly find the perfect adventure, while simultaneously boosting the profile of the winelands as a world-class destination to local and international tourists alike.”
The app also features an updated list of line-ups and must-see activities. Judy Lain, Chief Marketing Officer for Wesgro, the Western Cape’s Tourism Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, said: “The app is not only designed to discover wine farms and restaurants. It gives tourists information needed to discover adventure activities like running or cycling trails or the best picnic or sundowner spots.”
The Sideways rewards system lets users accumulate points whenever they check in with their smart phone at specific wine farms and points can be used to redeem rewards such as meal discounts and free wine tastings. The app is currently available for download on iPhone devices from the App Store and will be available on Google Play for Android devices early this year.
