In March the number of people in the tourism sector on full pay dropped to 11%, according to Tourism Update’s latest monthly poll.
When the first monthly survey was done at the end of January, 15% said they were getting their full salary when asked the question: “What percentage of your salary were you paid at the end of the month?”
An average of over 400 readers have participated in the survey each month.
Forty three percent of the industry said they had received less than 40% of their salary or nothing at all. This is slightly down from January when 50% said the same.
Tourism Update’s sister publication, Travel News, conducted a similar survey for the retail travel sector in South Africa. The story is similar, but worse, in that 51% of respondents said in March they had received nothing or under 40% of their salary.
The results of the surveys for the three months appear below.
