Visit Stellenbosch has launched Stellenbosch Wine Walks every Saturday to encourage locals and visitors to appreciate the town’s outdoor beauty as well as its food and wine appeal.
“By joining a Stellenbosch Wine Walk, you are directly contributing to the rebuilding of the tourism economy, instilling hope and providing opportunities to the benefit of our communities,” says Jeanneret Momberg, CEO of Visit Stellenbosch.
The route starts at 08h30 at Rustenberg gate, where parking will be available, and goes along Old Helshoogte Rd to Thelema for a wine tasting before ending at Le Pommier for another tasting and lunch. Transport back to the starting point leaves Le Pommier at 15h00. The route is in total about 8km.
“Through this walk you will have supported a tour guide, Ida’s Valley Community Trails, the Banhoek Conservancy, the roosterkoek tannie from Kylemore, the brownie tannie from Ida’s Valley, two wineries, a farm restaurant and a Pniël transport service,” adds Momberg.
The rate for the walk includes the guide’s fee, transport to the starting point, conservancy and hiking permits, two wine tastings, and lunch and snacks.
The walk costs R500 (€28) per person with a maximum of 13 guests. Private walks can be arranged for groups of up to 13 people.
