Tourists and foodies from around the world are expected to flock to Zanzibar next month for the second Stone Town Food Festival.
More than 30 hotels and restaurants from across Zanzibar are expected to participate in the culinary event, which is being held from October 9-14. The event celebrates the cookery heritage of Zanzibar during a six-day mouth-watering food fest served with a taste of history, folklore and traditional performances.
The festival also aims to encourage the islanders to take pride in their culinary history by showcasing traditional recipes and modern tastes.
A two-day street food celebration at Forodhani Gardens, popular for its night food market, is part of the festival.
Speciality culinary itineraries are designed to give travellers a gourmet experience with a focus on Swahili delicacies, the city’s food personalities, street foods and distinctive dining experiences.
Park Hyatt Zanzibar General Manager, Garry Friend, said: “We are very excited to be taking part in this year’s festival, an extraordinary culinary event that we hope will be drawing many international travellers to Zanzibar.
“Our vision is to use this food festival to promote tourism in Zanzibar, especially considering the fact that our island is known world over for authentic spices and herbs.”
This year’s festival is expected to attract more flavours and fusion cuisines from around Zanzibar following the successful inauguration in 2016.
