The Tanzanian National Bureau of Statistics has released data that shows a significant increase in tourist arrivals into the country over the past seven months.
According to the figures, during the period January to July 2022, tourist arrivals to Tanzania increased to 742 133 from 456 266 visitors in the corresponding period in 2021, representing an overall increase of 62.7%.
Thirty percent of the total arrivals during this period entered the country through Zanzibar.
When considering nationality, travellers from the US accounted for the largest share of tourist arrivals from regions other than Africa with 51 301 visitors, followed by France with 47 403 visitors. Travellers from Germany represented the third-largest share with 30 817, followed by Poland with 29 004, and then Britain with 28 275.
In terms of African countries, the largest share of tourist arrivals to Tanzania for January to July 2022 came from Kenya with 86 220 visitors. The rest of the tourist arrivals from African countries are as follows: Burundi (54 877), Malawi (27 079), Uganda (21 080) and South Africa (20 868).
