The Tshokwane Trading Post and Picnic Site, which is an hour from Skukuza and Satara camps, reopened on September 30, following a refurbishment instigated by tourism group, Tourvest. The picnic site now has a new patio, decorated with lounge-style chairs, where guests can enjoy their meals. Allison Graham, Chief Executive of Tourvest’s Destination Retail Division said: “Here, guests can either cook their own food on braais, or hire a skottel (barbecue) from the Trading Post. Alternatively, the new site has an extraordinary South African menu, cooked on the open fire in front of the guests.” Graham says the menu includes a venison potijie (stew), freshly baked potbread, homemade kudu and buffalo pies, frikkadels (meatballs) with tamatiesmoor (tomato sauce) and chocolate-filled roasted marshmallows.
The Tourvest Destination Retail division now operates the picnic spot.
