Safari destinations in Zimbabwe are seeing an increase in visitor numbers, says African Bush Camps Marketing Manager, Shelley Cox.

She said camps in the Hwange National Park had experienced a substantial increase in interest and that the country had made a comeback as one of the prime safari destinations over the past two years.

“International visitor numbers have continued to increase with the growing positive exposure of what the country has to offer. Historically, due to the political and economic challenges in the country, numbers to the more remote areas of the country declined despite the incredible wildlife experiences continuing to be available throughout this period,” Cox said.

Cox said the increase was a result of continued efforts to introduce incentives to attract visitors which include seasonal specials, packaged deals and value-added offerings.

According to operators in the safari destination, an increased interest from the Australian market has been recorded, while new markets starting to show traction for Zimbabwe include South America and Asia.

The majority of international arrivals come from the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom and other countries in Europe.
