THE Western Cape has launched its 2008/2009 summer season welcome campaign with the catch phrase, “Summer is here; Summer is now; Where else would you want to be?”
The campaign being rolled out by destination marketer, CTRU, will run from December 2008 until February 2009. It focuses on a list of 101 affordable things to do in Cape Town and the Western Cape, which will be advertised in print, radio and online. These will include advertisements on six outdoor billboards at Cape Town International Airport, on screens in airport shuttles; and in welcome packs handed to tourists at the Storms River and Beaufort West Gateway visitor information centres. Apart from the list of 101 things to do, tourists will also receive branded sunscreen, lip balm, temporary branded tattoos and sun caps.
An online Cape Town and Western Cape Facebook competition offering attractive prizes went live on December 4, encouraging visitors to experience as many attractions on the list as possible and to share their holiday stories online.
Domestically, the campaign targets young and upcoming travelers, couples and families. Internationally, it targets those foreigners who have holiday homes in the Cape and who spend their summers here.
