On October 4, the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa announced plans for the creation of the Dawid Kruiper rest camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Camp.
The announcement was made at the launch of the Khomani cultural Landscape World Heritage Site in Andriesvale, Northern Cape.
R18,1 million (€1,1m) has been made available by South African National Parks for the development of the camp. It will have 10 accommodation units, four with four beds and six with two beds. The camp will also include a swimming pool and reception building and internal roads are also planned.
The camp will be built in the area between the !Ae !Hai Kalahari Heritage Park and the Aoub River.

The Environmental Impact Assessment process is currently under way, with Environmental Authorisation expected by end of January. Construction is planned to begin in June and the camp is expected to open in July 2019. SANParks will run the rest camp, with 50% of profits going to the ‡Khomani San community.
