Vic Falls-based Skydive Tandem Company (STC) has expanded its offering from the beginning of this year to offer scenic flights of the Falls. This brings the number of companies that offer such a service in the resort town to four.
The other companies are Zambezi Helicopters, Chikopoko, and Bonis Air. Two other companies offering the same service operate from Livingstone in Zambia, Batoka Sky and United Air Charter.
STC General Manager, Ralph Tatham says the company has two fixed-wing aircraft for viewing the Falls, as well as skydiving.
He says scenic flights of the Falls are a new product, introduced to offer variety to customers. “We are not necessarily in competition with the helicopters, although we are doing the same thing with fixed-wing aircraft. Being smaller, fixed-wing aircraft are cheaper than helicopters,” he says.
He says the company is optimistic that 2019 will bring more business for both activities: skydiving and scenic flights of the Falls. The company is targeting about 120 skydivers per month in addition to scenic flights.
Launched in September 2017, a tandem sky dive is a free fall from 10 000ft above ground level, affording a spectacular view of the Victoria Falls and its environs, as well as the Zambezi National Park.
Other adrenaline activities offered in the resort destination include, but are not limited to, white water rafting and bungee jumping.
The owners of STC have 30 years of skydiving experience; and the firm pioneered Tandem Skydiving in Mauritius in 2009 before spreading its wings into Zimbabwe.
