Tharage reappointed DG of Dept of Tourism
South African Minister of Tourism Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has reappointed Nkhumeleni Victor Tharage as the Department of Tourism's Director General, with effect from September 2020.
Tharage will serve a new five-year term and has been given the responsibility of steering the department's efforts to recover the tourism sector from the impact of COVID-19 and current lockdown regulations in South Africa.
He has more than 16 years’ experience at a senior management level in government, most of it spent in the tourism sector and the broader public sector.
Tsogo Sun Gaming appoints new CFO
Tsogo Sun Gaming has appointed Annelize Hoyer as Chief Financial Officer, effective August 1. Hoyer is a chartered accountant and completed her articles with PWC in 2001 then joined the Tsogo Sun Group in 2002.
In the past two years, she has overseen the group's consolidation of casinos, bingo sites and the limited pay-out machines division, making her ideally positioned for this new challenge.
New GM for Victoria Falls Hotel
The Victoria Falls Hotel has appointed Farai Chimba as General Manager. The hotel, one of Zimbabwe’s iconic institutions, was established in 1904 and is now jointly leased by African Sun and Meikles Hospitality.
For the past 19 years, Chimba has held several management positions at five-star properties.
He is also Vice President of the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe and President of the Rotary Club of Victoria Falls.
New Executive Chef at Park Inn by Radisson Newlands
Tharwat Londt has been appointed Executive Chef of Park Inn by Radisson Newlands, Cape Town.
Londt started his career as a waiter in 2003 and worked toward an apprenticeship at a wine farm during his training years. He then earned his Advanced Diploma in Professional Cookery from City & Guilds in London.
He has worked at the Cape Grace Hotel and Singita and as a private chef on yachts followed by a spell working in Germany and Spain.
Vayeni announces two new appointments
Luxury independent DMC for Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia, Vayeni, has appointed Sales and Marketing Manager, Kelly Hougaard, and Reservations Manager, Madré Viljoen.
Hougaard has years of experience in the luxury safari industry and previously managed sales and marketing for The Hide in Hwange as well as Changa Safari Camp in Matusadona, Kariba.
Viljoen is a midwife and healthcare specialist. In her new position, she will run operations on the ground in Victoria Falls where the Vayeni guide team will report to her.
