More than 25 hotels at the Kenya coast have closed following the start of low season, which began last month.
Normally, some hotels in coastal tourist towns close for the low season, which begins in April and ends mid-July. But, according Hotel Workers Union Kilifi County Branch Secretary, Michael Yaa, more than 20 hotels in Malindi and Watamu closed last month due to low business.
Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers Caterers (KAHC) Coast Branch Executive Officer, Sam Ikewaye, said 13 hotels affiliated to the association had shut down.
The KAHC official says he expects the hotels to reopen again between July and August.
