Live Nation, in partnership with Stadium Management South Africa and Gearhouse South Africa, has announced The Dome – a state-of-the-art venue in Nasrec, Johannesburg – will open in January 2025. Located near FNB Stadium, the facility will be the largest dedicated live entertainment venue in South Africa with capacity exceeding 10 500.
The Dome, Live Nation’s first permanent venue in Africa, spans over 0.6 hectares and is designed as a multi-purpose space suitable for live entertainment, conferences, exhibitions and product launches. Built entirely in South Africa, the venue aims to support local and pan-African talent while contributing to the region's economic development through job creation and community initiatives.
“The Dome fills a critical gap in South Africa’s live entertainment scene, providing opportunities for emerging and established artists to connect with diverse audiences,” said Justin van Wyk, CEO of Live Nation South Africa.
Bertie Grobbelaar, CEO of Stadium Management South Africa, added: “This collaboration reflects a shared vision to host world-class events while empowering local talent and supporting economic growth in Johannesburg and Gauteng.”
Ofer Lapid and Nasser Abbas, Joint CEOs of Gearhouse South Africa, noted: “This partnership represents a commitment to service excellence and the development of a vibrant cultural hub for Johannesburg and beyond.”
Upcoming events
The Dome will host a range of musical genres including Afrobeats, Amapiano, Pop and Hip-Hop. Nigerian Afrobeats artist Tems is scheduled to perform her first solo South African headline show at the venue on March 20 next year.
The venue will be managed under an agreement with the City of Johannesburg with operations overseen by Stadium Management South Africa. Gearhouse South Africa will provide technical expertise, enhancing the venue’s capabilities to host large-scale events.
