Hosting the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations is expected to cost South Africa R400 million, according to a report by iAfrica.com.

Local Organising Committee Chief Executive, Mvuzo Mbebe, was speaking at a press briefing in Johannesburg on May 25.

However, Mbebe said the final costs of the event would be agreed upon next month after a meeting with the Government's national treasury department.  

“The broader terms are still to be finalised with treasury. We have projected a budget, obviously, with the opening and closing ceremony being the big events.”

He said the LOC was still in discussions with the Confederation of African Football and the sponsors, to concentrate on areas that could reduce the budget. The plan is to bring local private sponsors on board to help reduce Government's costs.
