Althea Jacobs has woven her culinary magic for over 20 years in the Cape Town area, culminating in her appointment as Head Chef at ANEW Hotel Green Point.
By investing in continuous learning, she helps her teams produce high-quality food consistently. This dynamic chef makes the kitchen fun by instilling a sense of excitement about every plate that leaves her kitchen.
Her culinary journey started at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel where she attended training and worked for two years. Thereafter, she moved to the Baxter Theatre on a short-term contract basis and gained insight into catering. “Upon returning to the V&A Hotel after my time at the Baxter Theatre, I worked as a sous chef and after two or three years I ended up running the kitchen,” she says.
Althea spent a part of her career at Jonkershuis at Groot Constantia and Dock House and in July this year started her journey at ANEW Hotel Green Point.
Her inspiration stems from world-class chefs, Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver. Speaking of her definition of success, she says growing through different positions is fundamental to living out one’s passion.
Asked about her new journey at ANEW Hotel Green Point, Althea says: “For now, I’m still learning and adapting to the operations of the hotel. I am, however, tremendously grateful for and humbled to be a part of such a well-run hotel group. The encouragement, motivation, my team, and support are what make this journey amazing.”
Operations Director Kevin Burley says: “We look forward to witnessing Althea take her career to greater heights. She’s an exceptional Head Chef.”
