Botswana’s first diamond museum, The Adrian Gale Diamond Museum, in Orapa, has been opened by President Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

“The museum is a legacy for future generations to appreciate the anchoring building blocks of this economy and country,” said the President.

The museum was named after the former Debswana GM, the late Dr. Adrian Gale, who sought to diversify the economic base of the Boteti region from mining. The diamond museum is one of the first initiatives to be realised with his project.

The museum explains mining processes and displays mining products. There is a curio shop; a coffee shop; storage area, visitors lounge, as well as indoor and outdoor display areas.

The Department of National Museum and Monuments contributed significantly to the development of the museum for the high volume of tourists transiting to the Makgadikgadi.

There has also been investment in the expansion of Orapa Game Park, which boasts a large variety of species including a thriving population of White rhinos. 

Orapa is about 240 km south west of Makgakgadi Pans National Park.
