Inge Altona-de Klerk, responsible for marketing, has noted a significant change in demographic of its client base, since they first began the cage-diving operation.

“In the past it used to be avid shark lovers or adrenalin-seeking adventurers. These days it is not unusual to have honeymooners, families (with children and grandparents in tow) or couples in their golden years joining us on board.”

She believes this may be because shark-cage diving is no longer seen as the ‘adrenalin junkie’ experience it once was. “It is now viewed as a bonding experience to share with your loved ones – something that you’ll talk about for years to come,” says Altona-de Klerk.

“When it comes to shark-cage diving, you are dealing with intense emotions. To dive with sharks might be a client’s lifelong dream, and getting the opportunity to finally fulfil it, fills them with torrents of emotion, ranging from incredulity to ecstasy.”

There are also clients who sign up for shark-cage diving to face a fear, says Altona-de Klerk, “Imagine the emotions gushing through these clients as they finally take the plunge to face one of their deepest fears. These emotions, coupled with the inevitable awe and respect Great White sharks evoke, plus the infectious passion and vast knowledge of our crew, are what make shark-cage diving an authentic experience.”
