This week’s comment relates to an article exploring the rise of solo travel in the post-COVID-19 world.
Bloemfontein-based tour operator, Tony Horn, said the following:
“Many of my tours are for the solo traveller. I feel that the relationship built between the guide and tourist is personal and most often a lasting friendship arises. This I have vividly discovered during this lockdown where past clients are assisting me.
Often solo tourists, having built a good relationship with me, now send their family or friends over to tour and so the cycle continues. I do agree, though, that single supplements can make the tour expensive, which, if the tourist is a female can present problems. If I take a male client, we share accommodation, which for many does not present a problem.”
