MANAGEMENT of the V&A Gateway Centre at the V&A Waterfront is to change hands on April 1 from Cape Town Tourism (CTT) to Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU).
CTT has been managing the centre on behalf of CTRU since it opened in April 2005. CTRU says this contract comes to an end on March 31 and it will now assume responsibility for the centre in accordance with its legal mandate. “In accordance with the Western Cape Tourism Act (Act No 1 of 2004) and the Provincial Visitor Services Strategy, one of the major functions of Cape Town Routes Unlimited is to establish Gateway Centres throughout the Western Cape on main incoming and outgoing routes,” says Calvyn Gilfellan, CTRU acting chief executive. “With the conclusion of the contract, CTRU would like to convey their appreciation to Cape Town Tourism for a period of excellent management partnership rendered at the V&A Gateway Centre. CTRU hopes that Cape Town Tourism will make use of a recent proposal to have a dedicated and continuous presence at the V&A Gateway Centre.”
CTT ceo, Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold, was not prepared to comment further until “we have clarity on the way forward pertaining to our continued presence at the V&A Waterfront”.
CTT issued a statement late last week saying its contract had been “terminated” and that it was pursuing a continued presence at the Waterfront “in the best interest of our members and continued delivery of excellent visitor services for Cape Town”.
