The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has confirmed that it will be meeting with international airline representatives in September to discuss their concerns around the new immigration regulations. 
This in response to a letter from more than 20 airlines to the South African government warning that new immigration regulations would be the catalyst for a “tourism, PR, economic and political disaster”. 
While News24 reports that the proposed 12-month reprieve will form part of the meeting’s agenda, Spokesperson for the DHA Mayihlome Tshwete, says that this is not entirely accurate.
“We don’t want to give people the wrong idea. We have agreed to meet with airline representatives in September because they requested a meeting,” he says. “It is unfortunate that these concerns have been raised at the last minute as these policies have been accessible to the public for a long time.”
Tshwete was willing to confirm only that the department would be open to constructive discussions during the meeting.
