Sun International Limited has announced the imminent closure of Ezulwini Sun in Swaziland.
In a statement the group said that there are several factors that have influenced the company’s decision.
The main reason is that it has become evident that there is an oversupply of three-star accommodation in the region. Due to the oversupply, both Lugogo Sun and Ezulwini Sun are being diluted from an occupancy perspective, rendering them unprofitable from a standalone unit perspective. Additionally, the fifteen year contract with Sun International’s Vacation Club timeshare expired in April this year and therefore no business from this sector will be realised in future.
For these reasons, it has been decided to close and mothball the Ezulwini Sun, effective July 1. This will have the effect of boosting the Lugogo Sun’s occupancies and profitability, as well as initiate major savings through nullifying the cost of operating the Ezulwini Sun, which is vital in the current economic climate.
The company has at this stage given no consideration to selling the Ezulwini Sun property, and will continue to maintain it as required.
Sun International’s sales and marketing efforts will ensure that any regular business to the Ezulwini Sun is retained through either the Royal Swazi Spa or the Lugogo Sun and the company remains fully committed to reviving their product offering in Swaziland.
