Impact of conflict in Gaza
The world is divided on the conflict in Gaza. The South African government has taken a clear stand with its case with the International Court of Justice brought against Israel.
Israel has subsequently implemented a level-three threat warning against all but essential travel to South Africa.
Inbound association, SATSA, has issued assurances that South Africa remains a peaceful destination for Israeli and Jewish travellers.
It said the government’s views were not necessarily those of all South Africans, emphasising that political debates and differences of opinion did not lead to violence.
“Our commitment to providing a safe and enriching experience for visitors remains unchanged and South Africa continues to value dialogue and peaceful exchange,” said SATSA.
Many countries have supported South Africa’s ICJ case, while others, including many key source tourism markets, have vehemently opposed it. This has sparked concern about the implications for South Africa’s relationships abroad – no matter what the ICJ ruling – and that the country could be targeted by its stance.
