Durban is set to become the epicentre of maritime innovation and sustainability this September as it prepares to host the inaugural Blue Economy Week from September 24-28.

This event will highlight the city’s commitment to harnessing the potential of its Blue Economy to attract and enhance international events.

Blue Economy Week will showcase cutting-edge technologies, innovations and solutions derived from scientific research and indigenous knowledge.

The transformative week will also engage the community in sustainable ocean-based economic activities, reinforcing Durban’s status as a premier global tourism destination. Coinciding with World Tourism Day on September 27, the week’s diverse activities will emphasise Durban’s attractions including adventure activities, shopping, dining, museums, galleries and its beautiful beaches.

Blue Economy Week will feature a dynamic lineup of events celebrating marine innovation and sustainability.

Highlights will include the cultural carnival on September 24, a film masterclass and beach activities on September 25 and, on September 26, a short film challenge, beach games and the Maritime Careers Expo.

Celebrations on World Tourism Day, September 27 will include mangrove activities and educational trails. The week will conclude with a closing ceremony on September 28, featuring a fashion extravaganza, beach sports and a carnival.
