South Africa’s Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille has embarked on an outreach mission aimed at further strengthening tourism ties with Ghana – one of South Africa’s fastest-growing source markets.
Annual arrivals from Ghana grew by 149% between 2023 and 2024 to more than 36 600 – double the 18 300 arrivals recorded in pre-COVID 2019. The growth followed the introduction of a reciprocal visa waiver between the two countries in November 2023.
De Lille’s visit, from March 26-28, includes engagements with Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Abla-Dzifa Gomashie, the Ghana South Africa Business Chamber and members of the tourism trade and media.
“Ghana and the broader African continent are incredibly important markets for South Africa’s tourism sector. This visit reaffirms our dedication to deepening partnerships and unlocking growth opportunities through meaningful collaboration,” said De Lille.
The visit will have the dual purpose of showcasing South Africa’s leisure and MICE tourism offerings and deepening bilateral tourism relations.
