As a result of a fire that broke out in the Overberg region in the Western Cape on January 16, Kogelberg Nature Reserve has been closed until further notice.
CapeNature said in a statement that the reserve has been closed due to the Houwhoek fire that is currently affecting Elgin.
“There is no current threat to the reserve, however there is a great deal of smoke in the area. The decision has been made to close for the safety of the public,” the statement said.
Aerial resources, including two helicopters from Working on Fire, a government-funded programme, and two South African National Air Force helicopters, have been deployed to the area along with 80 firefighters and 10 fire trucks.
