South African National Parks opened the first Muslim prayer facility at the Skukuza rest camp in the Kruger National Park on Monday, December 3.
KNP Managing Executive, Glenn Phillips cuts the ribbon at the prayer room entrance for women, with Jusuf Dockrat and Junior Honorary Ranger from the JHB South Branch of the SANParks Honorary Rangers.
The facility is located between the clock tower and the Stevenson Hamilton Memorial Library.
Four more facilities will be opened in due course at Lower Sabie and Satara rest Camps, and Afsaal and Tshokwane picnic sites.
“This project was facilitated by the SANParks Honorary Rangers JHB South Branch, who, within a very short space of time, raised the funds required for the development,” said KNP Managing Executive, Glenn Phillips.
The facility will include a wash up area (Wudhu facility for both males and females); however Muslim guests will need to provide their own prayer mats (Musallas).
