One of South Africa’s leading art fairs – FNB Art Joburg – is celebrating its 15-year milestone and is back to rocking the country’s largest city again after two years of being restricted to an online event.
The main FNB Art Joburg weekend is taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre from September 2-4, and is curated into six specialised sections with installations from contemporary galleries, public talks, lectures and presentations.
Running alongside the main event is the Open City exhibition – running from August 25 until September 9 – which is hosting a series of free and ticketed events that aim to immerse Johannesburg’s visitors and residents in the city’s rich cultural offerings.
The exhibition’s hubs in Rosebank, Braamfontein, Soweto, Joburg CBD, 44 Stanley and Newtown are showcasing a variety of artworks from 18 exhibitors, along with music, markets, film, food and fashion activations.
“We are thrilled to be back with an in-person fair in 2022, while also expanding our culture footprint with 15-plus days of dynamic culture programming through Open City, says FNB Art Joburg Managing Director, Mandla Sibeko.
“As the first and longest-running contemporary art fair on the continent, FNB Art Joburg continues to show active commitment to the arts and showcase the dynamic talent that Joburg, South Africa and the continent has to offer.”
Tickets and a full programme are available on FNB Art Joburg's website.
