Zambia is gearing up for its fifth Livingstone International Culture & Arts Festival (LICAF), which is due to take place from April 4-6, 2019.
The annual event is amongst the fastest growing in Africa, having started in August 2013 as a side event to the 20th session of the UNWTO General Assembly (which was co-hosted by Zambia and Zimbabwe), and today being one of the biggest platforms for regional and international culture and arts exchange.
Its purpose is to promote increased arrivals of both domestic and international tourists to Livingstone, known as Zambia’s ‘tourist and adventure capital’, and was developed from its small beginnings by the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA). It grew it into a cultural and arts festival that involves 73 Zambian tribes across 10 provinces, showcasing Zambia’s rich cultural heritage through traditional dance, cuisine, a spectacular 3km street carnival procession, and presentations of local arts and crafts to visitors.
The 2019 LICAF is organised by the ZTA in partnership with the National Arts Council, Department of National Parks & Wildlife, National Heritage & Conservation Commission, National Museums Board, Ministry of Tourism and Arts and the private sector.
Visitors will be able to experience the other attractions that Livingstone and its surrounds have to offer, include white water rafting, bungee jumping, wildlife safaris, helicopter rides and steam train rides.
Livingstone is 10km from the Victoria Falls, and offers tourists access to museums, arts and crafts, and local architecture.
