The domestic terminal at Maputo International Airport is scheduled to open officially in October, reports AllAfrica.com.
Since 2010, both domestic and international flights have used the international terminal.
Project Manager, Acacio Tuende, says: “The domestic terminal will be tested in July, with operations scheduled to start in August. The terminal is due to be inaugurated in October.”
The terminal is part of a major $132-million project for the expansion and upgrading of the airport.
The new domestic terminal is designed to handle two million people a year. It has two large halls able to accommodate 580 passengers at peak hours, with 300 in the departure lounge and 280 in arrivals.
Facilities at the new premises include14 check-in counters, offices, a main hall and commercial area, a health clinic, restaurants and pharmacies.
