Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) has given P500 000 (€42 020) in financial assistance to Nhabe Museum in Maun, which is close to Maun International Airport.
Four stalls will be built at the craft market, providing much-needed space for revenue generation for basket weavers and craft makers in the Ngamiland area. Construction of the stalls is expected to start soon and end in March next year.
Director of the museum, Salani Gambule, told Tourism Update: “The craft market will serve as a one-stop shop for tourists in Ngamiland and, as such, it will be very efficient in driving tourism to Maun and to the museum in particular. Through this fund from KAZA, the museum will be in a pole position to provide services to tourists in a hassle-free, sustainable manner, with proceeds benefiting the local community.”
KAZA TFCA sustainably manages the Kavango Zambezi ecosystem, its heritage and cultural resources based on best conservation and tourism models for the socio-economic wellbeing of the communities and other stakeholders in and around the eco-region through harmonisation of policies, strategies and practices.
