SINGITA is expanding its lodges in the Singita Grumeti Reserves in Tanzania. The exclusive 350 000 acre reserve is located in one of the most pristine wilderness areas on the Western corridor of the Serengeti. Three new suites, each with their own rim-flow pool and uninterrupted views of the African plains, are being added at Singita Grumeti’s flagship Sasakwa Lodge. Each suite will display typical African influences of wood, leather and grass, alongside crisp linens, imported chandeliers and exotic furniture. Singita Sasakwa is a member of Relais & Chateaux and currently accommodates 28 guests, increasing to 34 with the addition of the three new suites. At Singita Faru Faru lodge, a two bedroom unit with a private pool and two new double or twin suites are due for completion in December 2008. The lodge already has six suites and will accommodate 21 guests with the new expansion. For families or groups traveling together, the new two-bedroom unit may be booked together with the two new suites as a ‘lodge within a lodge’ to accommodate up to eight guests in complete privacy. Plans are being finalised to increase the number of luxury tents at Sabora Tented Camp, Singita’s third lodge within the Grumeti reserves. Meanwhile stables are being built at Faru Faru for Singita’s first overnight horseback safaris, which will be offered to experienced riders from mid-2009. Sasakwa lodge already has a state-of-the-art equestrian centre that stables a range of horses, including South African “Boerperde”. This breed is known for its outstanding temperament and a comfortable pace, making it ideal for longer horseback safaris. Seasoned guides will accompany riders on horseback game viewing.
