Subsequent to the publication of this article, Sthu Zungu was re-instated by SA Tourism in another position. She worked at SA Tourism until September 16, 2015.
Sthu Zungu, Country Manager for the US is no longer an employee of SA Tourism, following her suspension, on November 20.
SA Tourism confirmed to Tourism Update that Zungu left the organisation, with effect from March 25. The organisation declined to comment on claims of misconduct on Zungu’s part that allegedly include fake travel requests, gross absenteeism, abuse of company funds and hiring of industry friends to do favours.
Virginia Dionisio, US Trade Relations Manager, who was suspended along with Zungu last year, has been exonerated and has been appointed Acting Country Manager in the interim.
According to Zungu’s Linkedin account, she has been with SA Tourism: North America since October 2007.
“We take this opportunity to thank Sthu for her contribution to both the Italy and USA offices and wish her the best in her future endeavours,” SA Tourism said.
