The Leonardo in Sandton has furthered its reputation as one of the continent’s leading MICE establishments, with the opening of South Africa’s highest urban conference and events venue.
Officially opened on Thursday, March 7, on the 45th floor of the 234-metre residential, conferencing and lifestyle destination, L45 offers a unique ‘blank-canvas’ space that can be adapted for a number of corporate or private events, including seated conferencing, formal lunches or dinners, cocktail functions and weddings. The new venue boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that deliver panoramic views over Johannesburg.
Operations Director for Legacy Hotels & Resorts, Glenn Stutchbury, said the group had recognised the need to create flexible and adaptable venues.
“Three years ago we started working on the concept of making a unique space where you, the curators, can be creative up in the sky. Today we are able to deliver on that,” Stutchbury told eventing professionals at the launch.
L45 adds to The Leonardo’s array of other events and conferencing offerings, which include the award-winning Aurum Restaurant, the poolside Octo Bar, a conferencing and banqueting centre and the rooftop Alto234 – Africa’s highest urban bar.
One of Africa’s ultimate lifestyle buildings, The Leonardo offers 200 apartments, eight penthouses and the flagship Leonardo Suite.
Stutchbury stressed Sandton’s importance as the centrepiece of Legacy’s portfolio, which also includes hotels and game lodges around South Africa and in Namibia.
“Sandton is Legacy’s epicentre, with the Cupola Suite atop the Michelangelo Towers, the DaVinci Hotel and Suites, the Raphael overlooking Nelson Mandela Square and The Leonardo visible from most of Johannesburg, beckoning visitors into Sandton.”
