A gap has been identified in undergraduate programmes for tourism students in South African tertiary education institutions.
In a recent column, Nonkululeko Nyathikazi, a third-year Tourism Management Diploma student, discusses how an in-service training programme highlighted some of the shortcomings of her diploma course.
“It has been very challenging at times having to adapt to all the different web systems that are used and online booking systems. These are completely different to what we are exposed to and tested for in our examinations academically,” said Nyathikazi.
