Shearwater Adventures’ 100-bed camp facility, currently under construction in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, is expected to open in December.
Shearwater Group Public Relations Manager, Clement Mukwasi, said bookings had already started trickling in and he expected that by the time the project was complete, it would be fully booked.
Mukwasi said the new campsite would go a long way to meet accommodation demand in the resort town. “Most of our bookings have been coming in from international groups who have shown a great interest in the campsite. The amount of demand is impressive as the project is still under construction.”
He said the tour and adventure operator had ventured into accommodation facilities as demand was high in Victoria Falls. He added that there was a need for players in the sector to invest more resources into building accommodation. “We need more investment in increasing the available bed capacity in the resort town, especially campsites that cater for large groups who prefer the outdoors and adventure of the region. The tourism industry is booming and we are riding on good times,” he said.
According to Shearwater, the campsite is being built at a cost of more than $500 000.
