Natural Selection will open Hoanib Valley Camp in the remote and wild Kaokoland in northwest Namibia, in May.
The camp is a joint venture between Natural Selection, the local communities and giraffe expert, Dr Julian Fennessy. The camp is in the Sesfontein Community Conservancy on the banks of the Obias River, just outside the private 500 square kilometre Palmwag Concession.
Hoanib Valley will have six guest tents, crafted locally by Rundu carpenters, Himba carvers and basket weavers, via the Omba project in Windhoek. The camp is eco-friendly and is run entirely on solar power; the decks are made from bamboo and 70% recycled material; grey water is treated and rubbish is separated and recycled wherever possible.
Activities at the camp include game drives, tracking the elusive desert-adapted lions, elephants and Black rhino; cultural experiences; educational visits to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation; and excursions with the conservation team into the field for a donation of US$500.
Rates start at N$8 000 (€470) per person per night and include accommodation, all meals, daily activities and local drinks.
