With the market zooming in more strongly on ‘experiential tourism’, the emergence of a road trip adventure across Africa – where drivers can experience crazy vehicles, themed parties, local cuisine, and interact with travellers from across the globe – is something that surely piques tourists’ interest.
The Put Foot Rally is deemed an ‘epic African adventure’, which takes tourism to a grassroots level. It is “a self-drive road trip adventure that proves travel is easy, safe, affordable, and most of all... fun! We bring together like-minded adventurers from across the world who love to explore, to visit places they never knew existed, while giving back and doing good…and having the time of their lives from start to finish!” says the Put Foot Rally team.
Participants are invited to choose their vehicle – the more whacky and colourful, the better – from scooters, old-school Mini Coopers, Bentleys, VW Kombis, and Citi Golfs, to the latest Land Rovers and Hiluxes – all are welcome; bring their group of travelling mates together; pack a tent and map; then see Africa the way it’s never been seen before.
Departing from Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, drivers will travel through to Namibia to drive (safely) among the lions and other wildlife at Etosha National Park. The next stop is the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia, to experience Victoria Falls. Malawi will see travellers swimming off the beaches of Lake Malawi, before crossing the finish line in Mozambique.
Five checkpoints along the way will immerse travellers in the local culture, with ‘themes’ celebrating each host country and its people. Meals are where the full contingent of drivers come together to experience the traditional foods of each southern African country. And themed parties add a splash of fun, where one can dress up and enjoy local music such as the African drums, beneath African skies.
Added to the experience is hands-on charity work that participants will be doing in local communities, to see exactly where charity donations are put to work in making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
