Effective February 22, Air Tanzania is set to resume Dar es Salaam-Harare-Lusaka-Dar es Salaam flights three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. This has been confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ).

Harare and Lusaka were both previously served by the airline until the mid-2000s.

An increasing number of airlines are endorsing Zimbabwe as a safe destination, following instances in the past where some Western countries discouraged their citizens from travelling to Zimbabwe, with some airlines suspending flights to the country. Other airlines currently flying into Zimbabwe include Ethiopian Airlines and South African Airways, amongst others.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority Spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo, says more airlines flying into the country enhance accessibility for tourists, and the additional flights give visitors more flight options.

CAAZ General Manager, David Chawota, commented: “This is a positive development for Zimbabwe as it shows an increase in destination confidence. This development provides tourists, business and leisure travellers with more connection options to Lusaka, Dar es Salaam and beyond. Such air connectivity contributes immensely to the economic recovery.”

Chawota said: “We are in discussions with various airlines with a view to luring them to fly to destination Zimbabwe. Further information will be made available as and when firm agreements have been reached.”
