Operators now have more direct flight options between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) and Victoria Falls – offering tourists the best of South Africa’s lowveld and one of southern Africa’s top attractions.

Independently owned carrier, Airlink, has been awarded traffic rights on the Nelspruit Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) to Victoria Falls route.

Airlink CEO, Rodger Foster, confirmed to Tourism Update, that only two frequencies were available in terms of the bilateral air services agreement between South Africa and Zimbabwe, and therefore Airlink would commence the services with two flights weekly.

A commencement date has yet to be announced but Foster said Airlink provided a daily service between KMIA and Livingstone, Zambia, and, as such, already served the market from the lowveld to the Falls.

However, as the market was starting to spill over to the more substantial hospitality facilities on the Zimbabwean side of the Falls, Foster said Airlink saw the opportunity to following the shift and add the extra frequencies.

Airlink will commence the service using the 37-seat Embraer ERJ135 aircraft.

Meanwhile, Fastjet said in a statement that the airline’s network would also include the new international flights from Victoria Falls to Nelspruit Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. The route is already open for booking.
